cyclone update: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Oct 22: As Cyclone Dana approaches the Odisha coast, expected to bring wind speeds of 100-120 kmph by October 25, the state government has intensified its preparations to ensure zero casualties. Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari announced that arrangements have been made for the evacuation of residents from vulnerable areas, following a coordination meeting with district Collectors to further review cyclone preparedness.

The government has set up 250 multipurpose cyclone shelters, equipped with essential facilities to accommodate evacuees. In addition, 500 temporary shelters have been established in schools and colleges across the state. These relief centers will provide cooked meals and necessary medical services to those affected.

The health department has compiled a list of pregnant women to facilitate their safe transfer to nearby health facilities, starting from Monday. Minister Pujari emphasized that women, children, and the elderly should seek safer locations, with women police officers deployed at relief centers for added safety.

In a proactive measure, all leaves for doctors have been canceled to ensure medical assistance is readily available. Health Services Director Bijay Mohapatra also indicated that directives have been issued to stock anti-snake venom injections and diarrheal medications at health centers in preparation for the storm.
