cyclone update: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Oct 22: A fishing boat carrying ten fishermen capsized at the Baitarani river mouth near Dhamra port in Odisha’s Bhadrak district on Tuesday, following a cyclone alert. Fortunately, all the fishermen were rescued by personnel from the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and Marine Police with assistance from locals.
According to reports, the fishermen, hailing from the Digha area, had ventured into the sea for fishing earlier. They were returning to shore after receiving warnings about the approaching Cyclone Dana when the boat overturned near the coast due to strong currents and high tides.
On receiving information, rescue teams immediately reached the site and successfully saved all the fishermen. However, the team has been unable to recover the capsized boat so far due to rough sea conditions and strong tidal waves.
With Cyclone Dana expected to make landfall on October 25, the authorities have reiterated their warning to fishermen, advising them not to venture into the sea and urging those already out to return to shore immediately.
