Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 16: The movie Daman, starring Babushaan Mohanty, was honored as the Best Odia Film at the 70th National Film Awards announced on Friday.
The accolade includes a Rajat Kamal trophy and a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh. Directed and written by Vishal Mourya and Debi Prasad Lenka, the film, which premiered on November 4, 2022, highlights the challenges faced by a doctor working to combat superstitions and educate tribal communities about malaria in Odisha’s Malkangiri district.

Daman has achieved significant success, becoming the highest-grossing Odia film of all time. In recognition of its impact, the Odisha government had previously declared the film tax-free.
The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting announced the award winners in New Delhi. The official award ceremony, where winners, including the recipient of the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, will be honored, is scheduled to be held in October, with President Droupadi Murmu presiding over the event.
