Dengue cases surge in Odisha: State reports 3,293 infections

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 28: The surge in dengue cases across Odisha has prompted serious concern. As of Thursday, the state has reported a total of 3,293 dengue cases.

According to the state Health Department, out of 77,267 samples tested, 3,293 were found to be positive for dengue. On Wednesday alone, 186 new cases were recorded.

The outbreak has been particularly severe in Sundargarh district with 990 cases and Khurda with 778 cases. Other affected districts include Cuttack (19 cases), Balasore (159 cases), Mayurbhanj (127 cases), Bolangir (110 cases), and Bhadrak (114 cases).

A Health Department team is actively addressing the situation in Rourkela, focusing on treatment and containment efforts. The majority of cases in Rourkela have been identified in the Rourkela Steel Plant (RSP) area. Three teams from the Health Department have already conducted visits to the affected regions.

Director of Public Health Nilakantha Mishra stated that measures are being taken to control the outbreak, with a central control room operating around the clock.
