Accused in Rs. 1.59 crore fraud case arrested after five-year chase in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen),April 16: The Nayapalli Police Station in Bhubaneswar apprehended the long-evading accused individuals after a five-year chase, following a Warrant of Arrest issued by the JMFC –III, Bhubaneswar. The arrested individual, Prateep Kumar Kar, stands accused of siphoning Rs. 1,59,81,685.00 from Nanda Kishore Behera’s company, Jagannathdham Superstructures Private Limited, into his personal account through fraudulent means, as per FIR NO: 355/2019, under sections 420, 468, 471, and 34.

On April 7, 2024, at 5 PM, the IIC of Nayapalli, Bhubaneswar, took custody of Prateep Kumar Kar, sending him to jail.

Nanda Kishore Behera, the founder and promoter of Jagannathdham Superstructures Private Limited since 1994, is a highly qualified individual with extensive experience in engineering and management. He holds a B. Tech (Civil) degree and has previously worked with the Government of Odisha and renowned Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) such as Indian Railway Construction Company (IRCON). He has also worked in countries like Singapore and Bangladesh and holds a Super Class Contractor license from the Public Works Department (PWD) of Odisha.

Previously, Rs. 18.31 crores were misappropriated from the JSPL company’s account through forged documents and signatures. The ring leader, Prabash Chandra Mishra, along with his co-partner Rudra Dash, was arrested by the Nayapalli Police on December 6, 2020. Prabash Chandra Mishra misappropriated approximately Rs. 3.15 crores, while Rudra Dash diverted around Rs. 72.00 lakhs to their personal accounts and their parallel company, Jayd Superstructures, received Rs. 12.30 crores.

Prateep Kumar Kar, Rudra Das, Prabash Chandra Mishra’s brother-in-law, Lokanath Suryanarayan Mishra, are all accused of criminal breach of trust, cheating, forgery, and other relevant IPC and Indian laws. They allegedly exhibited a blunt attitude towards the situation.

Despite the arrest of Prateep Kumar Kar, Lokanath Suryanarayan Mishra remains absconding since August 2019.
