Assault on independent Kalahandi candidate during election campaign

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), May 7: Independent Kalahandi Lok Sabha candidate Naresh Hianla was assaulted by unidentified individuals while en route to Bhawanipatna for election campaigning on Tuesday.

Reports indicate that three assailants ambushed Hianla near Karlapada as he traveled with two companions for campaign activities. Upon exiting their vehicle, Hianla and his associates were attacked with sticks by the miscreants, who then fled the scene. Hianla sustained severe injuries and was promptly transported to Bhawanipatna Hospital in critical condition.

While the motive behind the assault remains unclear, political rivalry is believed to be a contributing factor.

Karlapada police have initiated an investigation into the incident following a formal complaint. As of the latest update, law enforcement authorities have yet to identify the assailants responsible for the attack on the Kalahandi Lok Sabha candidate.

“I was assaulted while traveling to Bhawanipatna. I do not recognize the perpetrators. I have faith in the police, and I trust they will apprehend the culprits soon and uncover the motives behind the assault,” stated Hianla.
