Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), May 29: Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Kartik Pandian expressed dismay over the Election Commission of India’s (ECI) decision to transfer two IPS officers associated with Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s office, deeming it unfortunate.

Pandian’s remarks followed the ECI’s directive on Tuesday to suspend DS Kutey, the special secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), for alleged interference in electoral matters. Additionally, the poll panel instructed Ashish Singh, the Inspector General (CM Security), currently on medical leave, to appear before a medical board by Thursday.

Describing the ECI’s action as regrettable, Pandian emphasized the exemplary service of both officers in combating Naxalism in Odisha, particularly in regions like Gajapati and Malkangiri. He lamented that these officers, recognized for their dedication and valor, have now become targets of political maneuvers, attributing the move to the Bharatiya Janata Party’s frustration over the anticipated defeat at the hands of the Biju Janata Dal.

Pandian lauded DS Kutey for his pivotal role in curbing Naxal activities, highlighting his bravery and significant contributions to maintaining peace and security in Odisha’s volatile regions. He criticized the perceived political motivations behind the decision, suggesting it reflects the BJP’s agenda rather than genuine concerns for electoral integrity.

Asserting the BJD’s commitment to ethical governance, Pandian refuted allegations of exploiting administrative resources for electoral gains, contrasting the party’s approach with what he perceived as the BJP’s tactics. He reaffirmed the BJD’s strength as a grassroots movement with substantial popular support, suggesting that the BJP’s actions are driven by their electoral ambitions rather than genuine concern for Odisha’s welfare.
