Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), May 25: Reports on Saturday indicated that the depression over the central Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify into a cyclonic storm, bringing rain to Odisha.

The Meteorological Department stated that the deep depression is likely to transform into a storm named ‘Rimal’, which is forecasted to escalate into a severe cyclonic storm by the following day.

Anticipated to make landfall between West Bengal and Kheupara in Bangladesh by midnight, the severe cyclonic storm is projected to bring winds with speeds reaching 135 km per hour. Although Odisha is not expected to be directly impacted, rainfall is predicted across the region. However, a change in weather conditions may be observed in north-coastal Odisha, where wind speeds could reach 40 to 50 km per hour.

The weather department issued advisories regarding rough seas along the North Odisha coast from today evening until May 27. Additionally, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has alerted District Magistrates of Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Balasore, and Mayurbhanj about the likelihood of heavy rainfall.
