Economic Offences Wing arrests accused for defrauding Odisha company

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), May 9: Saroj Kumar Mohanty, accused of defrauding a company in Odisha, has been apprehended by the Economic Offences Wing in Bhubaneswar. Although arrested in Bhubaneswar, Mohanty hails from Jagatsinghpur, as reported.

Mohanty is slated to appear before the court under the OPID Act in Cuttack today. The case, brought forth by Biswajit Bhuyan, Managing Director of the affected company, alleges Mohanty, the former Accountant of the company, of defrauding it of Rs. 2.63 crore through forged documents.

Investigations have revealed Mohanty’s employment as an Accountant with the informant company, Sealcoat Structural Pvt. Ltd., from 2006 to 2008. During this tenure, he was entrusted with overseeing the company’s financial affairs, managing bank transactions, tax matters, and financial statements.

Further scrutiny indicates that between fiscal years 2015-16 and 2017-18, Mohanty defrauded M/s Sealcoat Structural Works Pvt. Ltd. of Rs. 2.63 crore through various means, including forging documents and executing illegal transactions.

Mohanty manipulated the company’s financial instruments, such as cheques and RTGS forms, to divert funds for personal gain. Additionally, he forged the signature of the Signatory Authority-cum-MD of the company, Biswajit Bhuyan, in some instances.

Moreover, Mohanty illicitly transferred or diverted funds to multiple accounts, including his personal account, and manipulated payments due to parties for his benefit. The investigation into Mohanty’s fraudulent activities continues as authorities delve deeper into the matter.
