Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), April 16; Animesh Pradhan, a native of Odisha, has achieved the second rank in the Civil Services Examination (CSE) 2023, results of which were announced by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) on Tuesday. This marks a notable accomplishment, as Animesh comes close to Roopa Mishra’s top position in the CSE, a feat not seen in the past two decades.
Hailing from Bhalugadia village in the Talcher area of Angul district, Animesh holds a BTech degree in Computer Science and Engineering from NIT-Rourkela, completed in 2021. He has been employed as an Information System Officer with Indian Oil Corporation Limited.
Animesh’s academic excellence is evident from his impressive score of 98.8% in Class XII. He attended DAV Public School, MCL, Kalinga area, where he also served as the head boy for the academic year 2016-17, according to his Linkedin profile.
Despite personal adversity, having lost both his parents, Animesh persevered. His father, Prabhakar Pradhan, chaired Hingula Mahavidyalaya, Talcher, until his passing in 2017. Tragically, Animesh’s mother, Aruna Patra, passed away last January. He has a sister employed with the Horticulture Department.
In addition to Animesh, other Odisha natives who excelled in the CSE include Prajnanandan Giri and Ayushi Pradhan, securing the 24th and 36th ranks, respectively. Similarly, Abhimanyu Malik achieved the 60th rank, Jayashree Pradhan secured the 52nd rank, and Amritanshu Nayak attained the 110th rank. Shubhra Panda, Rashmi Pradhan, Biswajit Panda, and Sourav Das, also from Odisha, secured ranks 204, 319, 343, and 466, respectively.
The UPSC reported that 1,016 candidates passed the examination and are now eligible to apply for various central government positions. The UPSC conducts the Civil Services Exam in three phases to select officers for prestigious roles such as the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), Indian Foreign Service (IFS), and Indian Police Service (IPS).
