Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), April 27: Expressing frustration after being replaced by another candidate for the upcoming elections in Odisha, senior leader Mohan Kumar Hembram tendered his resignation from the Congress party on Saturday.

Hembram informed reporters that he was initially declared by Congress as its candidate for the Keonjhar Lok Sabha constituency. However, he expressed surprise and disappointment when the party changed its nominee for the Lok Sabha seat after granting him the ticket.

The party has since nominated Binod Bihari Nayak for the Keonjhar Lok Sabha constituency. Feeling humiliated by the sudden change, especially after he had already initiated his campaign in the constituency, Hembram announced his resignation from the primary membership of the Congress.

“The decision of AICC has embarrassed us. I cannot understand why the party gave me a ticket if I was not considered competent enough,” said Hembram. He also mentioned that he had contributed Rs 50,000 to the party as per the laid-down norms.

Additionally, he claimed that around Rs seven lakh had already been spent on the election campaign after Congress announced his candidature, insisting that the party should refund the money.
