Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), May 7: Police in Odisha’s Balangir and Sambalpur districts made significant cash seizures totaling Rs 6.61 lakh during pre-election vehicle searches. According to police sources, Rs 5 lakh was confiscated near Bijakhaman in Balangir, while Rs 1.61 lakh was discovered near Nildungri gate in Sambalpur.

In Balangir, authorities intercepted a car on the Balangir-Deogaon Road during routine checks and found Rs 5 lakh. The driver’s inability to provide a satisfactory explanation led to his detention for further questioning. The seized money was handed over to the flying squad.

Similarly, in Sambalpur, the police’s flying squad recovered Rs 1,61,800 during a vehicle inspection near Nildungri gate, leading to the seizure of the entire amount from a man identified as Amit Kumar Jaiswal.
Earlier, on May 3, police in Keonjhar district seized Rs 20 lakh from a car during a routine check at Bhadrasahi Chhak under Barbil police limits. The cash, discovered in two bags inside the vehicle, prompted speculation about its ownership as the driver fled the scene.
