Baripada, (Reporterspen), April 25: The authorities at the Similipal Tiger Reserve (STR) in Odisha’s Mayurbhanj district have adopted tower-based artificial intelligence (AI) technology to swiftly detect and combat forest fires.

Reports indicate that AI is now closely monitoring forest fires in Similipal, enabling immediate information retrieval and fire tracking. Thanks to advanced technology and the efforts of Green Fighters and ODRF personnel, forest fires have been contained within the buffer area of the reserve, safeguarding wildlife in the core zone.
Five tower-based AI systems have been strategically installed across Similipal sanctuary. These towers are equipped with high-resolution cameras capable of 360-degree movement, detecting activities up to 15 km away. This aids in identifying forest fires and illegal wildlife hunting. The installation cost of each AI tower amounts to approximately Rs 2.5 crore.

Furthermore, real-time forest fire data and transmission are facilitated through this system. To address manpower concerns, RCCF has deployed 505 fire squads in various wildlife divisions of Mayurbhanj district. Additionally, 733 air blower machines are utilized in firefighting efforts.
