Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), May 16: Tragedy struck Rahansa village under Kapila panchayat of Binjharpur block in Odisha’s Jajpur district on Thursday as three workers lost their lives due to asphyxiation. Several others sustained injuries when a mound of soil collapsed on them while they were engaged in laying pipelines for a construction company.

Local sources reported that the laborers were trapped under the heap of soil following the cave-in, prompting swift rescue efforts by nearby residents. The injured were promptly taken to Binjharpur Community Health Centre and later transferred to the district headquarters hospital (DHH) in Jajpur. Unfortunately, three of the workers could not be revived and were declared dead at the hospital.
Those with minor injuries were discharged after receiving initial medical attention.

Upon receiving information, the police arrived at the scene and arranged for the bodies to undergo postmortem examinations. While the identities of the deceased are yet to be confirmed, preliminary reports suggest they were from Bihar and Tamil Nadu.

An investigation into the incident is currently underway.
