Family violence in Odisha: Two incidents leave one dead, one injured

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 5: In a tragic incident in Odisha’s Balasore district, a woman died after allegedly being attacked by her husband with a steel bucket. In a separate incident in Cuttack district, a man was detained by police for allegedly injuring his daughter-in-law after a dispute.

According to sources, Bidyadhar Malti of Banida village under Jaleswar police limits had an altercation with his wife, Kalpana, when he returned home in an inebriated state last night. This morning, he attacked his wife with a bucket, killing her on the spot. The police have sent the body for postmortem and detained Bidyadhar for questioning.

The other incident occurred at Gobara village under Gurudijhatia police limits in Cuttack district. Amar Nayak found his granddaughter playing with a knife and asked her to drop it. When she did not listen, he allegedly beat her. Seeing her daughter being thrashed, Nini rushed to intervene, leading to a heated argument. In a fit of rage, the father-in-law attacked her with the same knife, injuring her nose.
The injured woman was rushed to a hospital, and the police detained her father-in-law for questioning.
