Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 25: A man and his 5-year-old daughter were found dead under mysterious circumstances in Nayagarh, Odisha, late Wednesday night. The deceased have been identified as Pulak Biswal (36) and his daughter Palak (5).
The Nayagarh Town police recovered the bodies from a house at Debadatara Lane 4 after breaking the lock in the presence of the tehsildar and executive magistrate. It is suspected that Pulak first poisoned his daughter and then committed suicide by hanging himself approximately two days ago.
Sources indicate that Pulak had remarried about three months ago following the death of his first wife. Concerns about his daughter’s future reportedly prompted him to take this drastic action while his second wife was away at her parental home. Upon returning, his wife found the house locked and after unsuccessful attempts to contact Pulak, she alerted the police.
Dipak Swain, a relative, said, “I came to drop my sister off and found that the house was locked. My brother-in-law’s phone was also switched off. We later called the police to report the situation.”
The bodies have been sent for postmortem, and a scientific team has arrived to collect evidence. The police are questioning Pulak’s second wife and relatives to determine the cause of the deaths. While domestic disputes are suspected, the case is being investigated from all possible angles.
