Fire erupts at Koraput Medical College, no casualties

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 30: A fire broke out at Saheed Laxman Nayak Medical College and Hospital in Koraput on Friday, caused by a short circuit in the Special Newborn Care Unit (SNCU) of the Maternal and Pediatric Department. The blaze rapidly filled the ward with thick smoke, posing a serious risk to patients and staff.

Prompt and effective action by the hospital authorities ensured that all patients and personnel were safely evacuated without any reported casualties. The fire necessitated the swift removal of newborns and pregnant women from the affected ward. Medical staff, patients’ relatives, and hospital employees were relocated to safer areas.

The police and fire department arrived quickly to control the situation, working to extinguish the smoke and prevent further damage. The incident highlights the importance of fire safety measures and emergency preparedness in medical facilities to protect vulnerable patients and staff.
