Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 26: Fishermen: Fourteen fishermen were stranded in the turbulent sea near the mouth of the Mahanadi River in Odisha’s Paradip after two fishing boats, Dharmashakhi-2 and Dharmashakhi-3, encountered technical difficulties on Thursday.
Reports indicate that Dharmashakhi-2 became stranded near the Nehru Bangla shoreline while returning from a fishing expedition due to a malfunction. In response to a distress call, Dharmashakhi-3 hurried to assist but found itself struggling against the rough sea conditions caused by a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. During the towing attempt, the rope snapped and became entangled in the boat’s fan, complicating the rescue operation.
Efforts by Paradip Port authorities to rescue the stranded fishermen and tow the boats to safety have faced significant challenges due to heavy rains and turbulent sea conditions. Authorities are working diligently to ensure the safety of the fishermen while assessing the best approach to navigate the treacherous waters.
