Five arrested in Bhubaneswar for reckless driving

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 16: A special squad, along with Laxmisagar Police, arrested five individuals on Monday for reckless driving and endangering the lives of other commuters in Odisha’s capital, Bhubaneswar. An SUV and a car were also seized as part of the operation.

Earlier, a video went viral on social media showing a group of youths driving at dangerously high speeds on Janpath, posing a threat to other road users. In addition to disrupting traffic, they were seen driving on dividers and pavements, further alarming citizens. The incident caused widespread outrage, prompting the Commissionerate Police to file a suo moto case.

Within a few hours, the police apprehended five individuals and confiscated two vehicles. Efforts are underway to apprehend the others involved in the incident. Notably, this reckless driving episode occurred just a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to Bhubaneswar for the launch of the Subhadra Yojana, raising concerns about law and order in the city during heightened security preparations.
