Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Nov 5: Purna Chandra Majhi, the former Congress MLA from Laxmipur in Koraput district, sadly passed away at the age of 42 while undergoing treatment at AIIMS in Bhubaneswar late on Monday night. Family sources revealed that he had been suffering from a liver-related illness and was admitted to the hospital for several days before his demise.
Purna Chandra came into the political spotlight in 2008 when he won a by-election following the death of his father, Anantaram Majhi, a prominent former minister. His political lineage continued with his sister, Anusaya Majhi, who contested the 2024 elections from the Rayagada Assembly constituency on a BJD ticket, although she was not successful.
The news of Purna Chandra’s passing has left a significant impact on the political community, prompting expressions of grief from various leaders. Koraput MP Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, former Rajya Sabha MP N. Bhaskar Rao, and senior Congress leaders Durga Prasad Panda, Shankarshan Mangaraj, and Ajit Das have all expressed their condolences, honoring his contributions to the party and the community.
