Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 10: Amid ongoing concerns over the potato crisis in Odisha, consumers can now expect more affordable prices with the arrival of fresh consignments in Bhubaneswar. The state government announced on Saturday that potatoes will be available at Rs 100 for three kilograms, thanks to the new stock arriving in the state.
The Food Supplies and Consumer Welfare Department has begun distributing potatoes through government fair price shops under the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) jurisdiction. Dealers have been directed to provide three kilograms of potatoes for Rs 100 to all ration card holders and other consumers. This arrangement will continue until market prices stabilize, according to a senior official.
The official also assured that the government has procured an adequate stock of potatoes, which should help keep prices affordable for consumers.
However, despite the new stock, some consumers have reported fluctuations in prices at both wholesale and retail markets in Odisha, leading to ongoing issues and confusion.
