Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 20: Due to heavy rainfall caused by a depression affecting Odisha’s Gajapati district, the district administration has announced the cancellation of all employee leave on July 22.

The decision was made in response to the continuous downpour impacting various areas of the district. Sources indicate that the administration has identified at least 129 locations at risk of landslides and has instructed officials in different blocks to remain vigilant and monitor the situation closely.

On Friday, Paralakhemundi recorded 35.6 mm of rainfall as the district experienced significant downpours. Authorities are closely monitoring the water levels of the Vansadhara and Mahendratanaya rivers and are preparing to address any potential flood-like situations or waterlogging.

The depression, which crossed the Odisha coast near Chilika Lake—approximately 40 km south-southwest of Puri and 70 km east-northeast of Gopalpur—on Saturday morning, is expected to bring heavy to very heavy rainfall to Odisha on July 20. Isolated heavy rainfall is also forecasted to continue across the state over the next five days.
