Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 1: In the ongoing investigation into the death of journalist Madhumita in Bhubaneswar, her husband, Sridhar Jena, has been taken into police custody for further questioning.

Sources indicate that the police transported Jena to his rented residence in Indira Colony, under the jurisdiction of Dhauli Police Station, to continue their investigation into Madhumita’s death. She was found deceased on railway tracks near Bapuji Nagar last month.

Jena was arrested by the Commissionerate Police following a complaint from Madhumita’s family. He faces charges under Sections 80 (dowry death), 108 (abetment of suicide), 103 (murder), and 3 (5) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. During the investigation, police seized a diary and a ‘suicide’ note from Jena.

Madhumita, who worked as a copy editor for a regional website, married Jena on March 1, 2024. She is believed to have died by suicide on July 24, between 7:30 pm and 8:00 pm, after allegedly jumping in front of a train. A video purportedly recorded by Madhumita was shared on social media, accusing her husband of harassment and multiple affairs. She had been living with Jena at Indira Housing Colony in Lingipur, under the Dhauli police limits, and is reported to have traveled to the railway tracks near Mausi Maa temple on her two-wheeler.
