Investigation launched after father sells infant son in Jajpur district

Investigation: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Oct 1: A deeply troubling incident has emerged from Korei in Jajpur district, where a man allegedly sold his one-and-a-half-month-old son for ₹7,000 to cover household expenses. This shocking revelation came to light after the man’s wife filed a police complaint on Monday, prompting an immediate investigation into the matter.

Upon receiving the complaint, Childline personnel, in collaboration with local police, swiftly rescued the infant. The family, known to work as laborers, reportedly succumbed to extreme poverty, leading them to make the heartbreaking decision to sell their child to a middleman.

Currently, the baby is in the custody of Childline, where officials are ensuring his safety and well-being. Police have registered a case and are actively investigating the circumstances surrounding this incident, including identifying the middleman involved. The situation has raised significant concerns about the impact of poverty on families and the desperate measures some may take to survive.
