Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen) July 27: Odisha is expected to experience heavy rainfall until July 31 due to a well-marked low-pressure area over Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining northern Odisha, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday. The system is predicted to move west-northwestward in the next 24 hours.

The IMD forecasts heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) at one or two locations in the districts of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Balangir, Nuapada, Sonepur, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Angul, Deogarh, Boudh, and Kalahandi on Saturday, July 27. Additionally, there is a warning of squally weather with gusty winds reaching 40 to 50 km/h over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal and adjoining Northwest Bay of Bengal. Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into these areas as sea conditions are expected to be rough to very rough.

The heavy rain has already led to reports of landslides in Malkangiri and Koraput, particularly in the Lamataput and Nandapur areas, disrupting vehicular movement. The Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) confirmed the landslides in Malkangiri and noted that discussions with the Malkangiri collector are underway to expedite road clearance work. Traffic is expected to be restored soon.
