low pressure:Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Oct 3: With a new low-pressure area developing over the Bay of Bengal, Odisha is expected to experience scattered light to moderate rainfall this week, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Mrutyunjay Mohapatra, the Director General of IMD, indicated that a cyclonic circulation currently located over southeast Bangladesh and the North Andaman Sea is projected to strengthen into a low-pressure system near the coast of West Bengal and Odisha around October 4, after gradually moving in a west-north-east direction.
While the initial forecast does not suggest any further intensification of the system, Mohapatra noted that only northern Odisha is likely to see rain on Friday due to the low pressure. He emphasized that additional details will become clearer once the system takes shape.
On October 1, private weather forecaster Skymet reported that the expected circulation over the Bay of Bengal may not develop into a low-pressure area at the surface, but it will maintain monsoon activity across states such as West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, and East Madhya Pradesh. The weather system is anticipated to meander over these regions before eventually recurve northeastward, affecting Bangladesh and Northeast India.
