Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 29: Malkangiri’s Mangala Muduli is on the brink of making history. Once he completes his MBBS, he will be the first from Odisha’s Bonda tribe to become a doctor. Mangala recently cracked the NEET 2024 exam and secured a seat at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

His success has been lauded by Odisha’s ST & SC Development Department, highlighting his achievement in gaining admission to one of the state’s top medical institutions.

Mangala’s dream of becoming a doctor began in childhood, despite his family’s challenging circumstances. After completing his schooling at Mudulipada SSD High School, he pursued +2 science at SSD Higher Secondary School in Baladiaguda, Mathili, and cleared NEET on his first attempt.

Inspired by the lack of basic healthcare in his village and the suffering he witnessed, Mangala was determined to bring change, though he initially didn’t know how. He was unaware of NEET, believing that he could pursue medical studies directly after +2 science.

Recognizing his potential, Mangala’s schoolteachers guided him, with one even buying him a mobile phone for his studies. Due to the lack of mobile connectivity in his village, Mangala would climb trees to download study materials.
Mangala credits his success to his teachers, especially Utkal Keshari Das, who provided him with a place to stay and coached him for NEET at Erada in Bhadrak district.
