Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 12: Vigilance officials on Monday uncovered a substantial cache of gold, diamonds, and silver ornaments during a raid on properties linked to Tara Prasad Mishra, the former Chief Engineer of Roads & Building (Civil), Odisha.
The raids were initiated due to allegations of Mishra amassing assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. The operation is currently ongoing at nine locations associated with Mishra across Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, and Jharsuguda.
So far, the raids have revealed an extensive portfolio of assets, including ten high-value flats in Bhubaneswar and Jharsuguda, and seven plots. Additionally, officials discovered over Rs 2.7 crore in bank deposits and approximately 1.5 kg of gold.
The search also uncovered cash exceeding Rs 6 lakh, two luxury cars, including a Mercedes, and multiple high-end watches, including a Rolex valued at around Rs 13 lakh.
In a noteworthy finding, it was revealed that Mishra had spent approximately Rs 80 lakh on his daughter’s medical education. The investigation is also examining other deposits and investments in shares and mutual funds. Mishra had retired from government service last year amid several allegations against him during his tenure.
