Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 29: A 17-year-old boy was detained on Thursday in the Khandagiri area of Odisha’s capital for allegedly murdering a relative by slitting his throat.
The deceased, identified as Jagat Mallik from Raghunath Nagar, was attacked by the minor, a Plus II student living nearby, due to opposition to the boy’s one-sided romantic interest.
Sources indicate that the incident occurred late Wednesday night while Jagat was returning home on his two-wheeler. He was found 100 meters from his house with bloodshed along the route. The accused subsequently surrendered to the police.
Preliminary investigations suggest that Jagat had previously confronted and even physically assaulted the minor for pursuing his niece. The accused’s father is reported to have a criminal background. The minor is currently under interrogation as the investigation continues, according to Khandagiri IIC.
