Bhubaneswar/Baranga, (Tulu Patra), Aug 14: Nandankanan Zoological Park, located on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, mourned the loss of its aged zoo-born male hybrid lion, ‘Krish,’ on Wednesday.

The 20-year-old lion’s health began to deteriorate on July 26, and he was placed under continuous geriatric palliative care. Despite the dedicated efforts of veterinary doctors and support staff, Krish’s condition worsened, and he was unable to walk properly. After a prolonged decline, Krish passed away around 9 am.

Born on June 16, 2004, Krish had a notable legacy at the zoo, siring two litters—Kalpana in 2015 and Jeet in 2017—with his mate Radha. Krish was a major attraction for visitors, cherished for his unique presence and charm. His passing marks the end of an era for the zoo, which will remember him for his significant role in its history and as a beloved animal among the public.
