Bhubaneswar, (Reporters Pen): Sept 2: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) announced on Monday that a new low-pressure area is expected to form over the west-central and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal around September 5. This system is likely to bring renewed heavy rainfall to some parts of Odisha after a brief period of calm.

Heavy rainfall, ranging from 7 to 11 cm, along with thunderstorms and lightning, may occur at isolated locations in Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, and Gajapati districts on September 5. The heavy rain is expected to continue in Koraput, Malkangiri, Nawarangpur, Rayagada, Ganjam, and Gajapati over the following 24 hours.

While no additional warnings have been issued, light to moderate rain or thundershowers are anticipated at many places in South Odisha and at a few locations in North Odisha.

IMD’s extended weather forecast indicates that overall rainfall activity is likely to be above normal, with the potential for isolated heavy to very heavy falls and extremely heavy falls at a few locations between September 6 and 12. The forecast also suggests a moderate chance of another low-pressure formation over North Bay of Bengal during the first half of the week.
