Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 11: Following a deep depression that recently brought heavy rains to Odisha, meteorologists have forecasted the formation of a new low-pressure system over the region. On Wednesday, it was reported that a cyclonic circulation is expected to develop over West Bengal on Thursday, which may evolve into a low-pressure area around September 13.
This system is anticipated to intensify into a depression within the next 24 to 48 hours, potentially causing significant rainfall across various districts in Odisha. Areas likely to experience heavy rain include Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Sundargarh between September 13 and 15. Other districts such as Bhadrak, Dhenkanal, Keonjhar, Jajpur, Deogarh, and Jharsuguda may also face heavy rainfall.
Currently, a well-marked low-pressure area is present over Northeast Madhya Pradesh and neighboring regions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) stated that this system could intensify into a depression within the next 12 hours. Additionally, IMD scientist Umashankar Das noted another cyclonic circulation over Myanmar.
Despite the forecasted rain, there has been a reduction in rainfall intensity in Odisha as the previous system weakens. The IMD has issued warnings for thunderstorms with lightning in Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Balasore, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar on Wednesday.
