Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 8: On Sunday, the Odisha Vigilance arrested Bijay Kumar Behuria, Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI) of Nuapada, after seizing Rs. 1.32 lakh in suspected ill-gotten cash the previous day.

On September 7, a Vigilance team intercepted Behuria near Khurda Hospital Square while he was traveling from Nuapada to Bhubaneswar. The subsequent search revealed the cash, which Behuria could not satisfactorily account for, leading to its seizure along with his vehicle.

The MVI is suspected of receiving the money as a bribe, often referred to as “PC” (percentage) in common parlance.
Following the interception, Vigilance officials conducted raids at five locations, including Behuria’s rented residence in Nuapada, his parental home in Jajpur, an apartment in Bhubaneswar, and his office chamber. The raids aimed to determine if Behuria had amassed assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.

A case has been filed against Behuria under Sections 13(1)(b) and 13(2) of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018. He has been forwarded to the court, and the investigation is ongoing, according to a Vigilance release.
