Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 24: The Odisha Legislative Assembly descended into chaos for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, as BJD MLAs staged a walkout over the perceived inaction against the Odisha Governor’s son in an alleged assault case involving a government official.

Meanwhile, Congress MLAs created a disturbance, accusing the Union Budget 2024 of neglecting Odisha. The House was adjourned until 4 pm after an all-party meeting convened by the Speaker failed to resolve the deadlock.

In response, the BJP accused both BJD and Congress of collaborating to disrupt assembly proceedings and hinder state development. BJP MLA Babu Singh criticized Congress for their stance on the Governor’s address, questioning their conscience after Leader of Opposition Naveen Patnaik spoke in English. He also mocked Congress for their complaints about the Union Budget, referencing former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh’s comment about money not growing on trees.

Singh further criticized BJD for its handling of law and order issues, alleging that the previous BJD government failed to act against ministers involved in serious crimes.

BJD MLA Kalikesh Singh Deo expressed frustration with the government’s handling of the situation. He questioned why a business advisory meeting had not been convened to address the impasse and criticized the government for not making a statement in the House. Singh Deo emphasized the importance of the Assembly in holding the government accountable and accused the government of showing a lack of respect for the legislative process.
