Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 21; The Odisha Assembly was adjourned until 4 pm for the second consecutive day on Wednesday due to disruptions caused by the Opposition over the hooch tragedy in Ganjam district.

As soon as the House convened, BJD and Congress MLAs surged into the well, demanding an RDC-level probe into the incident that resulted in one fatality and left 14 others hospitalized after allegedly consuming spurious country liquor. The affected individuals are currently receiving treatment at MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.

Congress MLAs also called for safeguarding the rights of marginalized communities. Speaker Surama Padhy initially adjourned the proceedings until 11:30 am and later extended the adjournment to 4 pm as the House remained chaotic.

The second phase of the Assembly’s Budget session, resuming after a 19-day recess, began tumultuously on Tuesday. The Opposition Congress created a commotion over students’ union elections, while BJD members demanded attention on various issues, including the arrest of the Opposition Leader Naveen Patnaik for leading a walkout during the Governor’s address on July 22, the assault of a Raj Bhavan staff member by the Governor’s son, and a 10 percent reservation for Agniveers in all uniformed services announced by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi.
