Odisha Assembly: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), March 11: The Odisha Assembly witnessed chaotic scenes on Tuesday as opposition parties—Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress—created an uproar, leading to repeated adjournments. The session was marred by disruptions, protests, and even a physical scuffle between the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and opposition members.
Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati escalated tensions by climbing onto the Speaker’s podium and damaging the microphone. The ruckus erupted over two key issues—BJD members demanded Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi clarify BJP MLA Jayanarayan Mishra’s remark, calling the merger of the Koshal region with Odisha a “historic blunder,” while Congress protested against the rising crimes against women in the state.
As soon as the House convened, opposition members stormed the well, raising slogans and displaying placards. Speaker Surama Padhy attempted to restore order but was forced to adjourn the proceedings multiple times. Despite an all-party meeting, disruptions continued, forcing another adjournment till 4 PM. Meanwhile, Congress and BJD legislators staged protests outside the Assembly, intensifying the political standoff.
