odisha assembly: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Feb 20: Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati has urged the Odisha Assembly to recommend a posthumous Padma Shri for Satya Narayan Adhikari, the composer and singer of the iconic song Chhi Re Nani.
Highlighting Adhikari’s immense contribution to tribal music, Bahinipati emphasized that the song has recently garnered over 3 crore views across various social media platforms, resonating with audiences globally. He noted that Adhikari, apart from being a renowned lawyer, played a crucial role in promoting tribal songs from the Koraput region, making a significant cultural impact.
According to the Jeypore MLA, the Padma Shri, India’s fourth-highest civilian honor, would be a well-deserved tribute to Adhikari’s legacy. The song Chhi Re Nani, which poignantly expresses the pain of bereavement, was even played loudly during the recent India vs. England ODI match at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. Originally composed in 1991 and recorded in 1992, the song was part of the Bali Phil album of Desia songs.
In recent months, it has seen a resurgence in popularity, trending widely on platforms like YouTube, Instagram, and Facebook.
Satya Narayan Adhikari, an accredited artist of All India Radio, Jeypore, passed away in 2012 at the age of 57. His musical contributions continue to be cherished, and the growing demand for his recognition reflects the lasting impact of his work.
