Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 29: The Odisha Assembly was marked by heated exchanges on Thursday as BJD members accused the Mohan Majhi government of halting development projects in 314 blocks across the state.
The opposition legislators stormed the well of the House, chanting slogans after Speaker Surama Padhy dismissed the adjournment motion requests from BJD MLAs Arun Sahoo and Ganeswar Behera regarding the issue. Faced with the disruption, the Speaker adjourned the proceedings until 4 pm.
In media statements, Sahoo criticized the government for neglecting development in over 50,000 villages. He claimed that an unofficial directive was issued to halt works initiated by the previous administration. Despite submitting three adjournment notices, the opposition’s attempts to address the issue were denied, highlighting the government’s reluctance to engage in the discussion.
On Tuesday, the Assembly had also been repeatedly adjourned as the opposition pressed for a caste census and increased reservations in educational institutions for SCs, STs, and OBCs based on their population.
