Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 25: On the fourth day of the Odisha Assembly session, there was unprecedented chaos as opposition members from the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and Congress disrupted the proceedings. Speaker Surama Padhy was forced to adjourn the House until 4 pm.
The tumultuous scenes unfolded on Thursday during the zero hour when opposition members raised a storm over the contentious Polavaram project. Congress MLA Rama Chandra Kadam voiced strong objections to the central government’s decision to fund Andhra Pradesh for the project, claiming it would result in flooding in parts of southern Odisha.
Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati then called for the formation of a House Committee to address the Polavaram issue. The Congress members’ demands led to significant disruption, including Bahinipati allegedly pulling the Speaker’s microphone, which prompted a brief adjournment.
Initially, the House was adjourned for 15 minutes, but Speaker Surama Padhy later extended the adjournment until 4 pm to restore order.
