Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 28: Odisha Assembly Speaker Surama Padhy has imposed new restrictions on the use of mobile phones and the carrying of water bottles within the Assembly chamber. This directive, issued on Wednesday, prohibits MLAs from using mobile phones and bringing personal water bottles into the House.
The decision follows incidents where a member was seen taking photos with a mobile phone, while others were observed talking on their phones during proceedings. The Speaker expressed strong disapproval of these actions, emphasizing that such activities are inappropriate and disrupt the Assembly’s decorum.
Mobile phone use within the Assembly has always been prohibited, and the new rule reinforces this stance. Additionally, while the Assembly complex provides ample drinking water, some legislators have been noted bringing their own water bottles. The Speaker’s new directive aims to maintain order and ensure the focus remains on legislative business.
