Odisha braces for heavy rainfall and thunderstorms

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 23: Odisha is preparing for a wet and stormy weekend, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning across several districts on August 24 and 25.

According to the latest IMD forecast, heavy to very heavy rainfall (ranging from 7 to 20 cm) is expected in one or two locations within the districts of Sambalpur, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar on August 24. Orange warnings have been issued for these areas.

On August 25, similar orange warnings for heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) and thunderstorms with lightning have been issued for the districts of Sambalpur, Dhenkanal, Angul, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, and Keonjhar.

Additionally, heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning is predicted for one or two locations in the districts of Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapara, Bargarh, Angul, Dhenkanal, Jajpur, Cuttack, Sonepur, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bolangir, and Nuapada on August 24. On August 25, similar conditions are expected in the districts of Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Khurda, Puri, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Boudh, Sonepur, Bolangir, Nuapada, Bargarh, Malkangiri, Koraput, and Nabarangapur, which have been issued yellow warnings.

Looking ahead, IMD forecasts heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) and thunderstorms with lightning in one or two locations across the districts of Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Bargarh, Sambalpur, Deogarh, and Keonjhar on August 26. On August 27, similar conditions are expected in the districts of Sundargarh, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
