Bhubaneswar, (Reportespen), Aug 22: Odisha is expected to face very heavy rainfall over the next three days, starting Friday, according to an update from the India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Thursday.
The midday bulletin indicates that a low-pressure area over northern Bangladesh and its vicinity is anticipated to move westward across West Bengal within the next 48 hours. Additionally, a cyclonic circulation is expected to develop over the North Bay of Bengal and surrounding areas around August 24.
The IMD has forecasted heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) and thunderstorms with lightning in various districts including Bargarh, Balangir, Nuapada, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Khurda, Puri, Jajpur, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda until 8:30 am on Friday. Bhubaneswar is likely to see a cloudy sky with occasional rain or thundershowers.
An orange warning has been issued for Mayurbhanj and Keonjhar for heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) and thunderstorms with lightning over the following 24 hours (August 23). Heavy rain and thunderstorms may also impact Balasore, Bhadrak, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Ganjam, Gajapati, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda districts.
On August 24, heavy to very heavy rainfall and thunderstorms with lightning are expected in Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Jajpur, Angul, and Dhenkanal, with similar conditions possible in Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Khurda, Nayagarh, Puri, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Nabarangpur, Koraput, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, and Deogarh.
