Odisha braces for very heavy rainfall as low-pressure system approaches

Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 26: On Friday, Odisha is expected to experience very heavy rainfall due to a low-pressure area over the North Bay of Bengal and adjacent coastal regions of Bangladesh and Gangetic West Bengal. This system is anticipated to move west-northwest across Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand over the next two days.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow warning for heavy to very heavy rainfall (7 to 20 cm) at one or two locations in the districts of Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Bhadrak, Angul, Sambalpur, Bargarh, Deogarh, and Keonjhar. Additionally, heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) is expected in one or two places in Mayurbhanj, Puri, Khurda, Sundargarh, Nayagarh, Boudh, Sonepur, Balangir, Nuapada, Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Jajpur, and Jharsuguda.

Bhubaneswar is also likely to see a cloudy sky with heavy rain. Rainfall intensity is expected to decrease thereafter.

On July 27, heavy rain may affect one or two locations in Kandhamal, Cuttack, Sonepur, Bargarh, Balangir, Kalahandi, Nuapada, Nabarangpur, Koraput, and Nayagarh. Rain is likely to continue at one or two places in Nuapada, Balangir, Bargarh, Jharsuguda, Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Kalahandi, Koraput, Nabarangpur, and Mayurbhanj over the next 24 hours.

On July 29, a warning for heavy rain is in place for one or two areas in Balasore, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Sundargarh, and Jharsuguda.

The intensity of rainfall is forecasted to increase again on July 30, with heavy to very heavy rain expected in one or two locations in Jajpur, Bhadrak, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj. Heavy rain may also occur in Balasore, Cuttack, Dhenkanal, Angul, and Kendrapada districts.
