Odisha Cabinet: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Jan 22: The Odisha Cabinet, chaired by Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, on Wednesday approved a proposal to upgrade government-run primary schools into model schools across 6,794 panchayats under the Godabarish Mishra Adarsh Prathamik Vidyalaya (GMAPV) scheme.

The initiative, aimed at enhancing primary education infrastructure, will involve an estimated expenditure of ₹11,939 crore over five years (2024-25 to 2028-29). The cost per school will range from ₹1 crore to ₹4 crore, depending on student enrollment. The Chief Minister emphasized that detailed project reports (DPRs) will be prepared for each school to ensure accurate planning and expenditure.

Majhi criticized the previous implementation of the 5T Smart School initiative, claiming it lacked proper DPRs and estimates, jeopardizing students’ futures. He announced that under the Adarsh Vidyalaya Yojana, smart high schools would also be established, beginning with 114 panchayats in the first phase.

Additionally, the Cabinet discussed a proposal to seek ₹12.56 lakh crore from the Finance Commission of India, which will visit the state on February 5. A total of 10 proposals were approved during the meeting.
