Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), July 30: Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Majhi on Tuesday suspended DIG Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao of Fire Services & Home Guards on disciplinary grounds.

Uttamrao, an IPS officer, faces allegations of misusing his authority and violating service conduct rules. These claims emerged on Saturday night, prompting the Odisha government to initiate an investigation.
Upon returning to Bhubaneswar on Monday evening after attending the NITI Aayog meeting in New Delhi, the Chief Minister was briefed about the situation. Expressing concern, he instructed departmental officers to take the necessary actions, resulting in Uttamrao’s suspension.

The official notification stated: “Disciplinary proceedings against Shri Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao, IPS, are contemplated due to serious misconduct as a Member of the Indian Police Service. Therefore, the Government of Odisha, under the powers conferred by sub-rule (1) of Rule 3 of the All India Services (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 1969, places Shri Pandit Rajesh Uttamrao, IPS, under suspension with immediate effect.”

As per the notification, Uttamrao will remain at the State Police Headquarters during his suspension and must obtain prior permission from the Director General of Police, Odisha, before leaving the headquarters.

Sources indicate that Uttamrao’s suspension is related to allegations that he made inappropriate advances towards a female inspector.
