Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Sept 19: (medical education) On Thursday, Health Minister Mukesh Mahaling announced that medical colleges will be established in all district headquarters of Odisha within the next five years. This initiative marks a key promise from the Mohan Majhi-led BJP government, celebrating its 100 days in office.

Currently, Odisha has 11 operational medical colleges, with two more planned for Talcher and Kandhamal. Mahaling explained that this initiative aligns with a 2014 rule set by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which mandates the establishment of medical colleges in every district, funded through a 60:40 central-state partnership.

Additionally, Mahaling revealed that the government has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with six prominent institutions: IIT-Bhubaneswar, NISER, Xavier Institute of Management, Shri Shri University, and AIIMS-Bhubaneswar, as well as with Jipmer and Chandigarh’s PGIMER in an online capacity. These agreements aim to foster collaboration and enhance growth in science, research, and management through the Odisha University of Health Sciences.
