Odisha Government directs districts to identify Bangladeshi infiltrators

Bhubaneswar, (Reporters Pen): Sept 2: In response to recent unrest in Bangladesh, the Odisha government has instructed district authorities to identify infiltrators from the neighboring country, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the state Assembly on Monday.

The Chief Minister provided this update while addressing a query from MLA Bhaskar Madhei regarding measures to identify Bangladeshi infiltrators in various regions of the state, including Kendrapada, Bhubaneswar, and Puri.

CM Majhi announced that Collectors and Superintendents of Police (SPs) in all districts have been directed to identify and address the issue of Bangladeshi infiltrators within their jurisdictions. Special focus has been placed on Kendrapada, Bhubaneswar, and Puri districts.

According to the data shared by the Chief Minister, the number of Bangladeshi infiltrators is as follows: 2 in Bargarh, 199 in Bhadrak, 1,649 in Kendrapada, 17 in Bhubaneswar, 1,112 in Jagatsinghpur, 655 in Malkangiri, and 106 in Nabarangpur.

Sources indicate that identification efforts will be carried out through committees at the block, tehsil, and police station levels. The previous BJD government had reported identifying 3,740 Bangladeshi infiltrators residing in the state.
