Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Aug 5: To initiate the selection process for a new full-time Director General of Police (DGP) for Odisha, the Mohan Majhi government has requested biodatas from the three senior-most IPS officers currently serving in the state. The Odisha State Police Headquarters sent a letter on Sunday asking 1989-batch officers Arun Ray and S.M. Narvane, along with 1990-batch officer Y.B. Khurania, to submit their biodatas, including details on academic achievements, to the state Home Department.

These biodatas are required to prepare for a meeting of the Empanelment Committee, which will recommend three candidates to the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). The UPSC will then select one of these candidates to assume the role of the next DGP of Odisha.

Arun Sarangi, a 1990-batch IPS officer, has been serving as the in-charge head of the state police force since December 2023.

This move follows the recent premature repatriation of Khurania, who was previously posted as Special DG of the Border Security Force, to the state cadre last week. Meanwhile, 1989-batch IPS officer A.M. Prasad has moved to a central deputation as Special DG of the CRPF, making Khurania the third senior-most IPS officer currently in Odisha. This development has led to speculation that Khurania may be the leading candidate for the DGP position.

Currently, Ray serves as Director of Printing, Stationery, and Publication, while Narvane is posted as Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the Home Department.
