Odisha Govt: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Feb 17: In a major healthcare boost, the Odisha government is set to recruit 5,248 MBBS doctors and 126 dentists this year to fill existing vacancies across the state, Health and Family Welfare Minister Mukesh Mahaling informed the Assembly on Monday.
Addressing the House, the Minister stated that the Odisha Public Service Commission (OPSC) has been directed to conduct the selection process for these posts within this year. The recruitment drive aims to address the shortage of medical professionals in government hospitals, especially in rural and underserved areas.
Additionally, Mahaling announced that the state government plans to establish day-care centres and chemotherapy facilities in all district headquarters hospitals (DHHs) to improve cancer treatment accessibility. These centres will provide crucial services for cancer patients without requiring long hospital stays.
The government has also proposed opening satellite health centres in Bhadrak, Jharsuguda, Dhenkanal, Kendrapada, Sonepur, Deogarh, Kalahandi, Jajpur, and Boudh. Each of these centres will have ten observation beds and a 24-hour ambulance service to ensure swift patient transfers to the nearest district hospital.
“These satellite health centres will provide essential healthcare services by utilizing existing infrastructure, reducing patient load on major hospitals,” Mahaling added.
