Odisha news: Bhubaneswar, (Reporterspen), Feb 25: In a dramatic protest, 116 students from Basipitha Ashram School in Khunta block of Mayurbhanj district walked 22 kilometers overnight to meet the District Collector, alleging that they were being served substandard food and mistreated by teachers.

According to reports, these students, who reside in the school hostel, had repeatedly complained about the poor quality of food, but their grievances were allegedly ignored. They also claimed that teachers used abusive language against them for no reason, making their stay in the hostel unbearable.

Frustrated by the lack of action, the students left the hostel around midnight and walked all the way to Baripada, the district headquarters, to seek justice. Upon learning about the incident, Baripada Sub-Collector Dayasindhu Parida and District Welfare Officer (DWO) Guru Charan Mallick immediately met the students to hear their complaints.

Additional District Magistrate (ADM) Netrananda Mallick assured the students that their demands would be met. “It is unfortunate that they had to take such a step. The Collector has promised to provide all necessary facilities,” he stated.

Meanwhile, DWO Guru Charan Mallick confirmed that an investigation into the food quality and teachers’ behavior is underway, and strict action will be taken if the allegations are proven true.
